There Should Be No Silence on Allegations of Torture and Violation of Detainees' Rights
After viewing Amnesty International’s report published by Wattan News Network, which includes the claims reported in Suha Jbara’s testimony on being tortured and subjected to other forms of ill-treatment like beating and sexual threats by some Investigators while in custody in Ariha prison and apart from politics, and regardless of the charges made against the citizen, and whether or not she is guilty; based on the provisions of the Basic Law, particularly article 10, 11, 12, 13 14, which all prohibit all forms of duress or torture and require a proper treatment for all indictees and persons deprived of their freedom, and guarantee their right to contact a lawyer and to be tried before a court without delay, , MUSAWA- The Palestinian Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession demands the Attorney General to take the needed legal action regarding what was reported in the Amnesty International’s report, and to hold the perpetrators of any violation against the constitutional rights of the citizen, Suha Jbara, accountable, and to announce the results of these actions and the proceedings of the file, in adherence with the Basic Law and the international covenants signed by the state of Palestine and thus it is bound by its provisions. MUSAWA also demands to take the needed legal action regarding the guarantees of detaining eng. Imad Dweik, who is detained at the headquarters of the Preventive Security Service in the city of Jericho.
