MUSAWA calls for a transparent investigation into the murder of the child Qwaider, ensuring accountability for the perpetrators

Subject: We demand a transparent investigation into the murder of the child Qwaider, ensuring accountability of the perpetrators and a serious treatment of its causes

MUSAWA - The Palestinian Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession greets you while expressing its deep dissatisfaction with what was reported by the media and social media about the murder of a 16-year-old child by his father and relatives, according to what was included in the circulating news about the incident in which the child Qwaider lost his life after being severely tortured by the suspects, who justified their actions by wanting to discipline the victim on the grounds of accusing him of theft.

As we note at MUSAWA - The Palestinian Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession that the published pictures of the victim and his torture, along with his name and residence address, constitute an explicit violation of the provisions of the Palestinian Juvenile Law, which prohibits the publication of the name of the juvenile child, the publication of pictures of him, or the publication of his residence address, in order to preserve his privacy and human and physical dignity, which a matter that requires to hold the perpetrators accountable.

We call on you to announce the findings of the transparent and impartial investigation into the incident of torture and murder that ravages societal security and wastes its moral and legal values, as well as stating the reasons behind committing such a crime, as it is not enough to hold the perpetrators accountable only, but the real causes that form a fertile environment for the recurrence of such crimes must be addressed while emphasizing respect for the principle of a fair trial and the implementation of the rule of the accused is innocent until proven guilty. We wish to agree on a community plan that secures the taking of preventive and awareness measures that contribute to limiting the spread of these heinous crimes. Kindly inform us of your measures taken in this regard.
