West Bank
In cooperation with the Palestinian Human Rights Defenders (PHRDs) Network, MUSAWA organized and conducted 4 EU-supported meetings for the PHRDs members throughout December 2016. The meetings were held in four different areas within the West Bank (Ramallah, Jerusalem and Jericho; Tulqarm and Qalqilya; Jenin and Tubas; Bethlehem and Hebron). A total of 38 members attended the meetings, including 27 female participants.
The meetings tackled several topics, including introducing the Network by conducting field visits to courts, prisons and relevant organizations, in addition to many local activities which will be organized in each district to focus on issues related to violations and obstacles which human rights defenders usually face. Moreover, there was a discussion on the importance of promoting the Network’s activities, including the Palestinian Human Rights Defenders Declaration (PHRDD), and building networks with the media so that members would have a platform to speak about the role of the PHRDs Network. Finally, the attendees discussed the tweeting campaign which was organized on the occasion of the international day of human rights.
These meetings come as part of a project to empower Palestinian human rights defenders, conducted by MUSAWA both in the West Bank and Gaza, with the support of the European Union.
