In August, MUSAWA conducted 7 trainings in the West Bank and Gaza, two of which were implemented in Ramallah, one in Bethlehem, one in Nablus, two in Gaza, and another one in the south of Gaza (Rafah and Khan Yunis). These trainings come as part of the UNDP-supported training program for monitoring the courts and receiving complaints. The main purpose of the trainings was to strengthen the capacities of the participants in relation to the monitoring process and the mechanisms for receiving and following-up complaints. The participants included a number of the Lawyers for the Rule of Law Groups (friends of MUSAWA) and other lawyers; a total of 125 participants, 43 of whom were females.

Some of the most important topics discussed in the training included an introduction to court monitoring, an introduction to complaints, the authority lines of complaint units, the skills required for receiving complaints, the requirements that a complaint receiver or sender should meet, the methods available for the complainant to submit a complaint, the mechanism for investigating a complaint, and how to conduct field follow-ups and written follow-ups. The trainings also included practical exercises.

The trainings were given by members of the Lawyers of the Rule of Law Groups: lawyers Bishara Nazzal, Maram Al-Rajabi, Vida Banoura, Haneen Abu-Shbaikah, Angham Mansour, along with MUSAWA’s monitoring staff in the West Bank (Aya Al-Dabbas and Shurooq Abu-Qare’) and Gaza (Rula Musa).

At the end of the trainings, the participants recommended conducting more trainings on the topic, organizing field visits to the courts and public prosecutions in various cities, and ensuring the sustainability of the monitoring networks in different governorates.

This training was conducted with the support of the UNDP.
