MUSAWA demands the Hamas government to enable holding student council elections in Gaza universities
So that we do not forget…
Justice is indivisible and human rights are uncompromising
We renew, with the loudest voice, our call to the Hamas government to provide the political will for enabling university students to hold periodic, fair and transparent student council elections in Gaza universities. We remind of our memo that was addressed to Mr. Yahya Sinwar on April 13th on the necessity of reaching out to the Central Elections Commission to hold local council elections in the southern governorates immediately so that the state of contradiction in the positions and practical practices of the Hamas government does not continue, as it is still preventing the holding of local and university student council elections, while it actively participates in university student council elections and local elections in the West Bank.
Elections is a constitutional right, not a blessing or a gift, that stipulated by the Palestinian Basic Law in many of its articles, in the forefront of which is Article (26), which clearly stated, without controversy or difference in interpretation, that all Palestinians, equally and without discrimination shall have the right to participate in political life, including their right to vote, to nominate candidates and to run as candidates for election , in order to have representatives elected through universal suffrage in accordance with the law, and have the right, equally and without discrimination, to hold public office and positions, in accordance with the principle of equal opportunities.
