Complaint from:
Citizen
Subject:
“Violating Inviolability of Residence & Abuse of Power”
Memo date:
25/04/2018
Brief description:
On 12/04/2018, MUSAWA received a complaint from ……………… residing in ………………. /Gaza, stating that her house was raided by 8 armed persons. The raiders made noise and tried to break into her house through the roof, which terrified her and her young children, causing some of them to suffer from involuntary urination due to their extreme fear. At first, she thought that the raiders were burglars, but she was surprised to find out that they were police officers, all of whom were men. One of the raiders identified himself by saying that he is a friend of her husband’s, without stating his job title, and that he wants to meet with her husband, given that he did not have a warrant, and the police knew in advance that the husband is detained at the same police station where the raiders work. The complainant reported that the reason behind the repeated raids is that her husband filed a complaint against Major …………….. who works at ………………….’s police station, for his unlawful interference, along with another person, in the complainant’s house and the land on which the house is built, which he had inherited from his mother, being located within an area owned by the former. The complainant mentioned that this is not the first time they file a complaint in this regard.
MUSAWA’s intervention:
In view of what has been said, MUSAWA believes that this entails an infringement of the rule of law, an arbitrary use of power, a violation of the sanctity of residence, and a violation of privacy and the rules of conduct. Therefore, MUSAWA demands that the necessary legal action be taken in this regard to guarantee the complainant as well as her family their right to safety and security.
